Butterfly Larvae

I hope you have already heard all about the butterfly larvae. It arrived on Wednesday and we immediately got to work setting up the individual little homes filled with nutrient. The larvae are in the plastic homes now and will stay there until they form the chrysalis. I've put together a short video of the kids getting the larvae homes set up. Once the chrysalis' are formed, I will transfer them to the butterfly habitat. More pictures to follow!

Library Trip

We had a great time at the library. For some students it was their first time at the public library. We are very lucky to have such a great library so close to our neighbourhood. Please take advantage of it this summer and maintain the reading achievement your child has made this year. We will be visiting the library again in June as our school library actually closes a couple of week before school ends. If your child does not yet have a library time, please visit the library so they can take books out next time we go.

Next week we have an exciting week! We will be hatching butterflies.  The teeny, tiny butterfly larvae will arrive mid-week. Once it arrives we need to drop everything and get our larvae set up in their individual homes. Please ask your child all about it and keep watching the blog for pictures. It will be an exciting month! This is part of our unit on animal life cycles. There is really nothing better than seeing it live!

Poetry

Here is a sample of the "Two Word" poems that we wrote last week.

Spelling this week will be focussing on words that have or and ar in them. I use the key words "or" and "car"when kids are spelling words with or and ar.

Social Studies

We are once again working on Social Studies. Our unit on citizenship and decision making is always interesting and provides lots of conversation. Today we discussed saving, spending and budgets! I would like you to view the following video link with your child and talk about it with your child. Spelling-April 13

Comedy Hour!

We had lots of fun on April 1 with our jokes. We talked about timing, speaking up, using volume and expression and catching your audience's eye.  Here's a quick video of the kids telling their jokes. Enjoy!

One Last Snow Day!

We had so much fun rolling huge snowballs and making our snowmen. We went across the street to the park where there was a ton of untouched snow just ready for snowmen! The kids had so much fun! Enjoy the pictures!
